Amit Yoran, Tenable CEO and Cybersecurity Pioneer, Passes Away
We are saddened to report that Amit Yoran, the long-time entrepreneur and cybersecurity executive who served as CEO and chairman of Tenable, has passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation
Amit Yoran’s passing was announced by Tenable in a press release on January 4, 2025. Throughout his illustrious career, Yoran held various leadership positions that showcased his exceptional expertise and dedication to the field of cybersecurity. Before joining Tenable as CEO in 2016, he served as president of RSA, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s vision and strategy.
In addition to his tenure at RSA, Yoran was also the founding CEO of NetWitness, a pioneering security firm that specialized in threat detection and incident response. His tenure at In-Q-Tel, a not-for-profit organization focused on supporting high-risk research, further solidified his reputation as a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to advancing the cybersecurity landscape.
A Tribute from Tenable’s Leadership
In a heartfelt statement, Art Coviello, lead independent director of Tenable, remembered Yoran as "an extraordinary leader, colleague, and friend." Coviello praised Yoran’s tireless dedication to cybersecurity, his strategic vision, and his ability to inspire those around him. The tribute serves as a testament to the profound impact Yoran had on the company he led.
"Tenable has been fortunate to have Amit at its helm for nearly seven years," said Coviello. "His passion for cybersecurity, his strategic vision, and his ability to inspire those around him have shaped Tenable’s culture and mission. His legacy will continue to guide us as we move forward."
A Transition in Leadership
In light of Yoran’s passing, Tenable announced that CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond would assume co-CEO roles on an interim basis while the company conducts a search for a permanent CEO.
"We are grateful for the leadership and expertise that Amit brought to Tenable over the years," said Coviello. "As we navigate this difficult time, we will continue to draw inspiration from his vision and legacy as we move forward."
